Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at LKarr@swimbuckeye.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Why do you recommend year-round lessons?

Year-round swim lessons are a terrific way for an individual to become a safe and confident swimmer. Consistent repetition is the foundation of mastering any new skill. Stop and restarting lessons throughout the year can create inconsistencies in learning and development and may cause an individual to take longer to achieve progress.

What training do your swim instructors receive?

Our swim lesson instructors receive 40 online-learning hours through Starfish Institute Splash EDU and an additional 20 hours of in-person training. In addition, we provide an additional 10-20 hours of in-person and in-water service training for any active employee. Our instructors also have the opportunity to train to become certified USA Swimming Coaches, broadening their technical skills.

Will my child have the same instructor every lesson?

It is our goal to provide the same instructor every week, however, conflicts and illnesses may occur with the instructor’s schedule from time to time. We do our best to accommodate specific instructor requests. However, specific requests for instructors are not guaranteed. Instructor substitutions, modifications, and changes can occur at the sole discretion of Buckeye Swim School. If classes are not booked to capacity, we reserve the right to combine classes to fill the class. We reserve the right to cancel or change the lesson day, time, or level at any time at our sole discretion.

How many days per week should an individual take swim lessons?

We recommend regular year-round once a week. More frequency will lead to quicker retention and advancement through skill development. If you have a specific goal related to a timeframe, please reach out to us.

How quickly do swimmers advance through the program?

Each person’s swim journey is unique and based upon multiple factors including confidence, maturity, and gross motor skill development. Understanding and accepting these differences while aiding in their skill growth will help individual success with our program. You may always reach out to us if you have concerns about progress.

What if an individual is not at the same level as their peers?

The instructors are trained to notice and assist swimmers that are working at different paces. We understand that everyone learns at their own rate and with different teaching methods. We’re constantly evaluating our students and will adjust as needed to keep an individual growing in their level.

What happens if an individual misses a lesson?

Customers are eligible for one make-up every calendar month due to an absence. Participants must be actively enrolled in classes to schedule makeups. The make-up must be completed within one year from the date of the absence and is subject to availability as determined by Buckeye Swim School. No credits will be given if the student is unable to attend their make-up class and are not transferable to any other party. Private lessons may be made up with their current instructor with two weeks advance notice if the instructors’ schedule allows. We believe strongly in the connection between student and teacher in the private lesson setting and will do our best to honor such requests. Semi-private lessons may also reschedule with their instructor if both students have a makeup and can schedule together.

We need to take a break. What is our responsibility to Buckeye Swim School?

To withdraw from lessons please stop by the desk or email us your desire to do so no later than 10 days prior to billing (the 16th of each month). You will be removed from classes at the end of the current month or can choose to participate until a specific date in the following month and receive a prorated fee in that month.

What should we bring to swim class?
  1. A Suit! Anyone entering the pool is required to wear appropriate and snug-fitting swim apparel. Street clothing is not permitted.
  2. Goggles: We highly recommend that all swimmers wear goggles in class.
  3. Swim Cap: All students with hair longer than chin length are required to wear a swim cap.
  4. Towels:  We do not provide towels, please bring a towel or two to class.
  5. Swim Diapers: Students that are not fully potty trained are required to wear a disposable swim diaper covered by a reusable swim diaper.
What does the parent/guardian/caregiver do during lessons?

All minors must have an adult present during lessons.  With the exception of StarBabies the adult is required to stay in our lobby area during classes.  At the end of class, parents will enter the pool area to pick up their child (get the best wet hug they ever received) and head to the showers and/or changing area.

When should we arrive for class?

On your first day please plan to arrive 10-15 minutes prior to the start of class.  This will help you and/or the swimmer become acquainted with our facility.  After that first class, please arrive between 5-10 minutes before class.

Changing and restroom facilities are available for use before and after class.  Please note, that they are accessed through the pool area.
